In our latest discussion by the Nightwatchman Society, we intend to explore issues of Food, Water, Energy and Economic Security in Sri Lanka. What are our policy makers overlooking? Can one small change to policy benefit a whole country’s population?
About the Speakers
Tilak Dissanayake – Tilak Dissanayake is a product design engineer with 40 years of industry
experience at a variety of companies. He has a BSc and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hawaii, USA. He is also an advocate for making Sri Lanka a better place. He advocates for economic growth and high value added exports using product design engineering to take our agriculture indoors for food security in this climate changed world using the “gold” in our agricultural lands, and for a “Servant State Democracy” where there are no politicians, where we will be “served by the best, instead of being ruled by the worst.”
Dr. Hilmy Sally – Dr. Sally is leading a (mostly) retired existence in Sri Lanka after a 40 year international career in agriculture, water and natural resources management encompassing research, development and capacity-strengthening. His professional experience includes leadership and representational positions in project and programme management and consulting in diverse geographical locations spanning nearly 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. In-between the occasional consulting assignments he undertakes on behalf of various international clients, Hilmy currently spends much of his time contributing to endeavours that will hopefully result in making Sri Lanka a decent society.
